Gold leaf or gilded lettering is a traditional form of hand lettering that goes back many years. To paint the lettering on a shop window it takes a great amount of skill and patience as it is all done in reverse. First of all an outline is usually painted then allowed to dry. Then the lettering is painted in clear varnish an the gold is then applied to the varnish at the correct time for adhesion. A shadow can be added for effect. This is often blended to give more visual impact.
Traditional hanging signs can either be refurbished if existing or a new sign made from marine plywood and a solid oak frame. This can either be painted or stained using either Dulux Trade Exterior paints with either a satin or a gloss finish. These paints are guaranteed for 6 Years under most circumstances. Another make used is Internationals 10 year exterior gloss paint. This has a limited colour range.
A shop fascia can either be hand lettered on site straight onto the existing fascia board once it has been prepared. A new fascia can be made and fitted using marine plywood and painted or stained using either Dulux Trade Exterior paints with either a satin or a gloss finish. These paints are guaranteed for 6 years under most circumstances. Another make used is Internationals 10 year exterior gloss paint. This has a limited colour range. The lettering can then be painted using one shot lettering enamels or gilded using 23.75 carat gold leaf.
These can be made from either planed softwood or hardwood. They can be finished in any colour and paint finish that the customer wishes. Dulux Trade Exterior Satin finish, Dulux Trade Exterior Gloss which are both guaranteed for 6 years under most circumstances. Or they can be painted using International 10 year Exterior Gloss (limited colour range).
